You’ve got your new sleep headphones, curated a playlist of your favourite sounds, dimmed the lights - You're ready to wind down after a stressful day and start with your new sleep routine.
Here are some tips for you to get the most out of it:
Choose low beat music
Music that mimics the tempo of our heart beat works best to tune our bodies into sleep mode. Choose sounds with a beat of 60-80 per minute. Some great options include white noise, nature sounds, classical music, piano music etc. but feel free to experiment with different sounds to find the right one for you.
Go lyric-free
We recommend choosing music without words, as lyrics can be too stimulating for our mind or bring up old memories. Instead, we want to give our brain a rest to stop those racing thoughts with calming and soothing sounds.
Choose comfortable sleep headphones
Don’t wear earbuds or in-ear headphones all night as they can lead to a build-up of wax, damage the ear canal and lead to ear infections. Instead, use some soft and comfortable over-the ear headphones that are specifically designed for sleep.
Set the sleep environment
Make sure the rest of your nightly routine and environment is soothing, calm, and dimly lit to get all the benefits of your sleep-inducing sounds. Avoid looking at screens at least 1 hour before bed and write down any worries/to do lists before bed to clear your mind.
Be consistent
Research shows that the beneficial effects of music for sleep and relaxation get stronger over time, so make sure to stay consistent with your new routine. After a few weeks, you will start seeing the benefits and soothing effects kicking in more strongly.
